Andrea Cazares Rosas has an incredible life story, which she wrote in her scholarship application: “I did not grow up in a home, my family and I scurried from house garage to house garage, renting it only for a short amount of time. Due to the interminable work hours, my parents frequently missed school and family events. Being a dreamer is a hardship I live with every day. While completing my classwork, I have to remind myself that I have to work ten times harder than I already have.”
Despite her hardships, Andrea is always looking for ways to give back to her school, community, the Red Cross, and her family. Her volunteer experiences include being a mentor for her “little” with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program, holding book drives for donations as the President of the Kiwanis Key Club Service organization, and has intertwined Red Cross youth service activities with key club activities so members have the opportunities to be involved with the American Red Cross. With the American Red Cross, she was a co‐chair for the Services to Armed Forces Committee, where she was able to visit and engage in activities at the Nursing Home or the Fisher home. Andrea was also a student staff at the Red Cross Leadership Development Camp. She will graduate from high school with a 3.9 cumulative GPA.
Since Andrea’s selection as a recipient of the Skip Morgan LDC Scholarship, she has been selected by the University of Utah to receive a full ride scholarship. With the scholarship from the University of Utah and the Skip Morgan LDC Scholarship, she will receive a college degree to become a general dentist.
