“I will make the life of every person that I encounter better, and never worse.” This quote is the motivation behind all of Yishay Valbuena’s volunteer efforts.
Yishay was born in Bogota, Colombia, and moved to Salt Lake City at the age of four. She is currently a student at the University of Utah completing a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Her motivation behind this choice was so that she can improve communities of third world countries by constructing effective transportation, water, and biomechanical systems in suffering regions.
Yishay was involved with the Red Cross Youth Services throughout her high school years, serving as the youth representative for the Board of Directors of the Greater Salt Lake Chapter. She also became a disaster relief respondent and served as student staff for ARC LDC 2013. She also participates with Latinos in Action, serves as the President for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and does missionary work with her local church bringing life lessons to elementary age student and young teens by raising awareness of bullying and abuse. Yishay also finds time to organize a bi-yearly volunteer event to feed the homeless in downtown Salt Lake City.
Coming from humble beginnings, Yishay has accomplished much, and will accomplish so much more in her life. She is full of energy, and is passionate and dedicated with everything she gets involved in. She is a true leader.
